Intelligence inputs received from various security agencies including the Intelligence Bureau (IB) have said that dreaded Al-Qaeda terrorist Zakir Musa may be moving in Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar district, which shares its border with Pakistan.

‘The alert was issued in accordance with input shared by special agencies. A similar intelligence input was issued ahead of the assembly elections.’ An official told, adding that a letter has been issued to all station house officers, asking them to step up vigil around sensitive areas, especially near the inter-state borders of Punjab and the Army areas.

‘It is suspected that the terrorist could target Army installations on Rajasthan-Punjab border. Both the state police are in touch with each other for better monitoring.’ the official said.

Multiple alerts have been issued in the past about Musa’s movements in Rajasthan. Apart from Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh district has also been asked to maintain strict vigil.

Musa and his terrorist strings

Musa, who heads the terrorist outfit Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGH), a cell of Al-Qaeda, in Kashmir Valley, is said to be well-acquainted with places and people in Punjab and in border areas in Rajasthan.

Zakir Musa was a student in an educational institution in Punjab’s Mohali district, adjoining Chandigarh, from 2010 to 2013 before joining the militant ranks.

He had succeeded Burhan Wani as the chief of the terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen following Wani’s death in an encounter with security forces in Kashmir in July 2016.
