SpiceJet arriving in Jaisalmer soon: Golden City to Get Air Service from September

Jaisalmer is all set to get ‘affordable’ air service by September, this year. Despite being a hot tourist destination in Rajasthan the district was deprived of swift inter and intra-city air connectivity. Foreigners traveling to Rajasthan prefer air travel over road or rail travel. This is why the government was determined to connect Jaisalmer to other cities in Rajasthan by air.

Thankfully, the city is likely to get its air service soon. Spicejet– one of the leading private players will provide air connectivity on the famous Jaisalmer-Jaipur-Delhi route on all six days of the week. Taking a step in this direction, a team of DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) and Spicejet visited the Sun City to oversee preparations for the same.

Vigilant officers from Indian Force are imparting 5-day training to the RAC jawans. Trained jawans will oversee security measures at the new terminal. Since Jaisalmer lies close to Pakistan, it’s essential to strengthen security at the airports to prevent illegal trade and trafficking across the border.

Around 80 jawans of the RAC battalion from Jodhpur have been sent to the Jaisalmer airport for security purpose. They’ll keep an eye on the movement of passengers at the air terminal.

The team of experts inspected facilities at the new terminal. The Jaisalmer Air Force Station has already received security clearance to start its air service. According to AAI base director Mr. Rajeev Punetha, the new air terminal is likely to start its air service (operated by Spicejet) on Delhi, Jaipur, and Jaisalmer route.

DGCA officer Mukesh Verma and Bhawesh Mishra from Spicejet managed the operational activities at the airport. They gave instructions on setting up counters, scanners, x-ray, luggage weight machine, and other equipment at various places. They took note of the flight schedule and parking details at the new terminal.

The team will submit a complete report to the senior officials after verifying all details.
