On Wednesday morning, at least 43 people were injured when 15 coaches of the Sealdah-Ajmer express train derailed near Rura railway station. At about 5:20am, the incident took place near Rura railway station, 50km from Kanpur.

“A rescue team has rushed to the spot and a medical relief train from Kanpur has also been sent to the accident site. Currently we are focusing on relief and rescue operations,” railway spokesperson Anil Saxena said. “As per preliminary reports, 15 coaches of the train got derailed. The first 5 and last 3 coaches were intact,” Saxena added.

When enquired about the reason of derailment, Saxena said, “there was dense fog in the morning”. Well we are aware that due to the dense fog in the sky, there have been many incidents owing to which many lives have been killed.

2 lives were killed in the incident and 28 were injured. This news was confirmed by Zaki Ahmad who is the Kanpur IG.

The Health Department tweeted, reaffirming their ongoing support to ease the situation at the accident spot.

Rescue necessities have been supplied at the accident spot to ensure that all the travellers face the least inconvenience.

The district health department deployed 14 ambulances and relief teams form Kanpur and Tundla.

“All the passengers are being rescued and alternate arrangements are being made for those who want to continue with their journey,” said Kumar Ravikant, an official closely monitoring the mishap nuances.

On Wednesday, New Delhi-Lucknow Gomti Express, Delhi- Azamgarh Kaifiyat Express, Anand Vihar-Rewa Express were cancelled.

There are trains which were diverted. Until now, these trains have been diverted:

  • 12826 New Delhi-Ranchi Jharkhand Sampark Kranti Express will run via Palwal; started on 28/12/2016
  • 12382 New Delhi-Howrah Poorva Express will run via Palwal; journey commenced on 28/12/2016
  • 12312 Kalka-Howrah Kalka Mail will via Moradabad; journey commenced on 27/12/2016
  • 12488 Anand Vihar (Delhi)-Jogbani Seemanchal Express via Moradabad; journey commenced on 28/12/2016

Suresh Prabhu announced compensation for the families of the deceased and to those injured.
