Solar power

Solar power in Rajasthan is the peak source of energy and now even the power tarrifs are going lower. Recently, the solar power tarrifs have seen a fall of Rs. 2.62 per unit at the recent auction at Bhadla in Rajasthan.

A person who was associated with the auction process explained, “South Africa’s Phelan Energy Group and Avaada Power bid Rs2.62 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to win contracts to build capacities of 50MW and 100MW, respectively, at Adani Renewable Energy Park Rajasthan Ltd. SBG Cleantech bid Rs2.63 per kWh to construct a 100MW capacity”.

Generally, the power with the help of solar is generated at Rs. 3.20 per unit. The auction prices are much lower than the power generation by the coal-fuelled projects in India.

PM Narendra Modi has this clear vision of providing power at affordable rates. Piyush Goyal, the minister for new and renewable energy, power and coal mentioned, “Another milestone towards PM @narendramodi’s vision of clean affordable power for all: Bhadla Solar Park achieves tariff of Rs2.62/unit”.

Also, the good news is, from May 26th, 2014, the solar power generation capacity has seen multifold growth. From 2,650 MW, it has risen to 10,000 MW.

The joint venture of Japan’s Softbank Group Corp,Foxconn Technology Group and Bharti Enterprises is SBG Cleantech.

The venture took a speedy fold when Masayoshi Son from Softbank Corp. decided to put $20 billion in the solar energy projects of the nation.

Anish De at KPMG mentioned that Bhadla tarrifs brings the alterations in equation for every type of electricity generation in the nation.

De also said, “It has beaten all expectations. The industry was expecting the tariff to fall to Rs2.8 per unit. At these prices, it is a matter of time before solar along with storage transforms India’s energy landscape”.

Indian government is more inclined towards green economy regime and ultimately clean energy. By the year 2022, the country has the goal to generate 175 gigawatts of energy. Out of this, 100 GW will be generated from solar power projects.

The day is not far when India will be the third biggest solar market in the country.
