Rajasthan, the land of rich cultural diversity hosts a plethora of fairs and festivities throughout the year. Ramdevra Fair is an annual fair held in the honor of Baba Ram Dev. Every year, thousands of followers of Baba Ram Dev visit Ramdevra village in Jaisalmer to offer prayers at the saint’s Samadhi (tomb stone). The fair is open to all devotees, irrespective of their religions, castes, and creeds. This year too, Jaisalmer administration made special arrangements for Ramdeora fair.
Who is Ramdeora or Baba Ram Dev?
Baba Ramdev was a holy saint, known to possess magical powers, which made him famous across the deserts. According to the legends, five saints from Mecca had visited Rajasthan to test his holy powers. They ended up becoming the fans of Baba Ramdev.
The natives believe that Baba Ramdev was a patron of the poor, and helped the needy folks. Back in 18th century, he built a well to fulfill the water requirements of his folks in Jaisalmer. In 1931, Bikaner’s Maharaja constructed a temple near his Samadhi to honor his efforts.
Jaisalmer District Administration Gears Up for Ramdeora Fair
Every year, in the months of August-Septemeber, his followers organize the famous Ramdeora fair in Jaisalmer. This year, the district administration is all set to host the Interstate annual fair on August 23. The devotees will start coming at least 15 days in advance. The government employed 2000 policemen, anti-bomb squads, and sniffer dogs to strengthen security measures for the upcoming fair.
As per Jaisalmer SP Gaurav Yadav, the authorities will install CCTVs at distinct locations. This year, the administration expects around 40 lakh devotees at the fair.
Additionally, the police will use door frame metal detectors and hand-held metal detectors to restrict unauthorized entry of metal items. They’re likely to provide two-wheelers and radium belt for devotees coming on foot! Concurrently, the authorities will run awareness campaigns to avoid road accidents.
