Vijay Shankar Vyas, the noted agriculture and Padma Bhushan awardee dies on Wednesday. Suffering from illness, he passed away at 87. Shankar Vyas is survived by his wife and two sons. He had held various prominent positions at national and international organizations. On his demise, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje expressed her condolence on his death. Know about Vijay Shankar Vyas
Vijay Shankar Vyas was the director of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad and the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), Jaipur. Apart from this, he was also a senior advisor in the World Bank’s agriculture and rural development department. He had also worked as member of Economic Advisory Councils. He was also on the position of Deputy Chairman of the first Rajasthan State Planning Board.
These are achievements related to academics. He was also associated with several social movements. Prof. Vyas had also founded Ajit Foundation in his native town, Bikaner along with his family members. This foundation aimed at development of youth and revived local libraries.
In 2006, he was awarded Padma Bhushan. He had stayed in Rajasthan for almost three decades. He was still involved in academic work despite his illness during the last few months.
