Thunderstorm and dust storm wreaked havoc few days before and badly affected the states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Northern India. It took lives of approximately 124 people and left more than 130 injured. Well… it is not enough as the Meteorological Department has been continuously warning for the harsher thunderstorm accompanied by squall. 13 states and 2 Union Territories are likely to get rain and thunderstorm today. On 5th May, Shimla received a rainfall of 9mm leading to drop in temperature. On the lower hills of Himachal Pradesh, the thunderstorm and hail storms are predicted by IMD. In Haryana, the state government has taken decision to keep schools close on May 7 and May 8. Delhi will have thunderstorm and dust storm in the next 48 hours.
IMD has issued warning for high raining in states of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on 7th May. For the states of Uttarakhand and Punjab, there are predictions about thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds.
Thunderstorm accompanied by squall is likely at isolated places in West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan but intensity will not like before. The MET department issued high alert for Agra, UP. The states of Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha will experience thunderstorm and gusty wind.
This time, Southern India will also see the impact of thunderstorms. There are also possibilities of heavy rain in parts of Telangana, Karnataka, north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.
National Disaster Management Authority on thunderstorm
