Dholpur—a small city in Rajasthan was once known for its chivalrous Gujjar rulers. Today, the city of Dhaval Dev is recognized by the successful tales of countless household women. The wonderful, inspiring women of Dholpur may not possess high degrees, but they’re adept in life-skills and spread it to others around them. These independent women have constituted a self-help group of their own. The groups visit local women in different villages and educate them about various techniques in agriculture, animal rearing, dairy, irrigation and related skills that are essential for survival and income.
Their patience, hard work and talent was recently recognized by Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje herself. Raje was there in the Dholpur CMO camp office to address the grievances of locals. Many local MLAs, ministers and government officers were there along with the CM to provide sustainable solutions to public problems.
The CM took this opportunity to appreciate the undying passion and self-confidence of women in Dholpur. She congratulated them for attaining financial stability and spreading positivism around them. Further, CM Raje called upon the diverse population of Rajasthan to seek motivation from simple, dexterous women of Dholpur.
Here are Few Ways in which Dholpur Women Inspired Us…
-
“Saheli”—Friends that Teach you the True Meaning of Independence
Saheli is a “Women’s Development Co-operative Society” comprising of women that go door-to-door to train others as well as themselves. Over 52000 rural women residing in 562 villages are linked to 12 women cooperative societies and 4328 self-help groups functioning in 318 villages, under this program. These women grasp new skills via internet and teach it to others around them.

Dholpur Sahelis will Contribute in Government’s Jal Swavlamban Yojana
Rajasthan government has launched the second phase of its renowned MJSA (Mukhyamantri Jal Swavlamban Yojana) or rainwater harvesting scheme in Karauli, Dholpur and other remaining districts of Rajasthan. Upon CM’s instructions, the director of Rajasthan river basin authority Mr. Sriram Vedire will provide the Dholpur women training in Water budgeting.
This way, the group can offer their valuable contributions in MJSA Dholpur.
Inspired by the success of Dholpur women, a tripartite MoU was signed between Municipal committees, Municipal Corporation of Rajakheda, Bari, Dholpur and ‘Saheli Samiti’ (Saheli Society). The idea was to make women confident and financially independent by providing them with sustainable means of earning.
The government intends to send these women as ‘resource persons’ (or trainers) to Karauli and other backward districts, as well. Raje specifically requested the state finance commissioner Ms. Jyoti Kiran Shukla to prepare a detailed blueprint of ‘Saheli’ group and their day-to-day operations. Based on this data, the government will set up many similar groups in remaining cities and villages.
In this changing scenario, women are actively moving out from traditional four-walls of their homes and venturing into the outside world to grab better opportunities. Self-help groups like ‘Saheli’ and ‘Solar Sakhis’ have changed the face of Rajasthan and nudged it towards success!
