The state government of Rajasthan has agreed to setup 35 POCSO courts in the state. Under Chief secretary, a meeting of judges of High court and state government officials was held. In the meeting, the decision regarding establishment of POSCO courts was taken. In all the 33 districts of state, one POSCO court will be set up and two courts for Jodhpur and Jaipur.
It is mandatory for every state to follow the direction given by Supreme Court in setting up of POCSO courts. The Act stipulates separate courts to trial cases of sexual assault on minors. Rajasthan is setting up these special courts on being asked by Rajasthan state Legal Services Authority.
Rajasthan government planned to establish POCSO courts at the divisional headquarters only except Bikaner and in Pali and Alwar districts. This made Rajasthan Court to order government to set up separate special court.
POSCO court
POSCO court is special court established under protection of children from sexual offences Act,2012. The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) 2012 was established to protect the children against offences like sexual abuse, sexual harassment and pornography. This Act defines different forms of sexual abuse which includes penetrative and non-penetrative assault.
