Rajasthan, the largest state and one among the top 10 populous state of the country has despite of everything being able to rank among the top three states in India to provide homes to the residents. Rajasthan ranks number three when it comes to owning homes. As per the latest reports by the minister of state for housing and urban poverty, Rao Inderjit Singh, around 93.22% people in the rural areas of the state reside in their own homes and only 5.36% live in rented accommodations. Rao Inderjit Singh submitted this report in the Upper House on Friday.
Whereas, if we talk about the urban areas in Rajasthan, around 80.86% of the people live in their own homes, with only 16.93% residing in rented accommodations.
In three states in the country, namely Rajasthan, Bihar and UP, the overall ownership of houses is above 90%. Talking about rural areas, Bihar and UP are the two top states with almost 98% of the people owning homes. And talking about urban areas UP has around 82.2% people residing in their own homes whereas Bihar has 83% people residing in owned houses.
“Traditionally, Rajasthan is not a state that has attracted people from outside. This is due to its geography and lack of job opportunities. In addition, the natives have significant land holding, particularly in rural areas. So, they built their homes in villages,” said Mohan Singh, a sociologist.
