During elections, it is observed that fake news and wrong information are being circulated over social media. For this most common platform is WhatsApp. People spread wrong information on it and create confusion. As Rajasthan Assembly polls are round the corner, this problem is required to be handled. To address this issue, WhatsApp conducted training for community leaders in Jaipur. Know more.
WhatsApp conducted this training program in partnership with the Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF). Under this program, socio-behavioural change of society was addressed. WhatsApp users were trained to spot false news. They have also been trained on finding difference between rumours and opinions. They were also given tips to stay safe on WhatsApp.
Who all attended the program?
This effective training program was attended by over 100 participants. Law enforcement authorities, college students, local government administrations as well as NGOs and community leaders were part of the training course.
On this training program, WhatsApp, Policy Manager said that WhatsApp feels proud to support Rajasthan and its people in increasing their connectivity. Adding to it, he said that these trainings are a key part of our strategy to help people stay safe and limit the spread of harmful rumours this election season.
Steps taken by Government
Prior to elections, Central Government asked WhatsApp to take actions to stop the spread of disinformation on its platform. After this, WhatsApp and DEF held a series of educational workshops in various states including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana.
