Adamant at improving the existing shortcomings in healthcare system, Rajasthan health department is braced up to embrace new challenges. Just recently, state health minister Kalicharan Saraf inaugurated an automatic refraction machine to boost ophthalmology unit at Sethi Colony satellite hospital. Additionally, a donor agreed to contribute Rs 2 crore for constructing a new floor in the hospital building. This news was confirmed by the health minister himself. Addition of a new story will increase the bedding capacity in the hospital from 50 to 100. A similar move was implemented in Kanwatia hospital, where addition of a new orthopedic unit relieved burden on SMS hospital by enhancing its outpatient capacity.
The new orthopedic unit at Sethi hospital will be headed by Dr. Rajkumar Harshwal (Assistant Professor) and Dr. M.K. Yadav (Professor). Five junior resident doctors, a senior resident doctor and two medical officers will assist them in this endeavor. These orthopedics have been shifted from SMS hospital to Kanwatia hospital, to bring immediate relief to the patients admitted in emergency cases.
For those who didn’t know, Kanwatia hospital is one of the easily accessible hospitals in Jaipur. Its outpatient department receives around 1,000 patients on a daily basis. Unfortunately, the shortage of proper ICU facilities prevented doctors from admitting a lot of patients to the hospital.
The hospital is furnished with operation theatre for minor surgeries but it lacked an ICU unit that is necessary for post-operative care. In time, the government will try to include necessary facilities. They’ve already initiated the revamp process by inaugurating a new ambulance service, as informed by Dr B.L. Meena, Principal Medical Officer.
Still, a lot more needs to be done. To emerge as an independent, full-fledged, well-furnished unit, Kanwatia hospital requires a spacious parking stand, better sewerage connectivity and more efficient gynecologists. There are 23 doctors in the hospital that specialize in ophthalmology, orthopedics, forensic science, ENT, general surgery, pediatric surgery, pediatrics and medicine. However, there’s a vacancy for gynecologist in the hospital since last two years.
The government will try to address this problem by taking calculated steps in this direction.
