In the light of recent Gujjar controversy gripping Rajasthan state, the cabinet sub-committee investigating reservation demands of the SBC (Special Backward Classes) took a historic decision today. The sub-committee comprises of key cabinet ministers like Rajendra Rathore, Hem Singh Bhadana and Arun Chaturvedi. The ministers decided to safeguard the SBC quota in all ongoing departmental recruitments in Rajasthan.
Knowing that the bill for extra 5% reservation bracket is pending in the Supreme Court, the state government would make efforts to elevate the financial stature of the Gujjar communities by appointing SBC candidates, who’ve completed the requirements of the state recruitment process. The community will protect the rights of SBC applicants throughout the recruitment process.
According to Rajendra Rathore, Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, the Rajasthan government will appoint those SBC candidates who’ve cleared the written tests and interviews for various positions. If required, they’ll direct the RPSC (Rajasthan Public Service Commission), SSB (Service Selection board) and other departments in this regard.
The decision came after the state high court annulled extra 5% quota granted to the SBC communities. Following the high court’s decision, notorious leaders like Himmat Singh Bainsla attempted to create commotions in the state by provoking Gujjar communities to stage protests against the government. The leaders blamed Rajasthan CM for not siding with the communal leaders in their misdeeds.
Nevertheless, Rajasthan Gujjars showed faith in government’s decision and they were silently waiting for the government to take appropriate steps in this case. Their patience was rewarded when the sub-committee decided to grant them recruitment this week. Co-incidentally, this announcement coincides with Dev Narayan Jayanti (a religious event observed by the Gujjar communities to honour their deity).
The deserving SBC candidates now look forward to their appointments in various government offices. With this, the government has managed to kill two birds with a single stone– discourage notorious leaders like Bainsla from creating nuisance in the state and delivering one of the promises they’ve made to the Gurjar community earlier.
