A democratic society flourishes when the citizens are educated and well-informed. We cannot negate the significance of education in our lives. This powerful weapon provides positivity, crucial knowledge, skills and learning to empower young minds. Without education, it’s difficult to navigate the world or perform our duties safely and accurately. Liberal education opens up our perspectives regarding various cultures, phenomenon, philosophies and history. This is why it’s important for a governing body to impart quality education via schools and institutes.

Keeping this in mind, the Raje-led state government has put in rigorous efforts to uplift the status of government schools in Rajasthan. Needless to say, these efforts delivered sweet fruits for this academic session (2015-2016). According to ASER-2016 (Annual Status of Education Report-2016), Rajasthan government schools enjoy excellent educational outcomes and better enrolment numbers in last few years.

The ASER-2017 survey came as a serious setback to the private schools in Rajasthan. The student admissions in Rajasthan government schools has boosted by 4%. Compared to 2014 enrolments (52.2%) the current enrolment percentage is 56.2%. Contrary to this, the enrolments in private schools dipped from 42.1%to 39.2% for 2016-2017 academic session.

The report further states that national average for student admissions in all the government schools is 65.4%. It’s a matter of pride for Rajasthan that it’s close to 10% less than the national statistics. Mr. K.B. Kothari, the MD of Pratham Educational Foundation (an independent NGO), the integration of multiple schools is the chief reason behind this achievement. The introduction of Adarsh and Utkarsh schools based on Vivekanand School model and Sharde hostels for girls have accelerated the growth graph of education in Rajasthan government schools.

While this is better than the previous results, but it’s quite below the national average that is 60.1%
  • About 54.1% of class V students in government schools can read Class II-level textbooks. The numbers have improved by 7.2%, compared to 2014’s outcomes (that was 46.6%). Interestingly, the national average is just 47.8% in this regard. The pupils also got better at solving 3-digit problems (28.2% compared to 23.6% of 2014). Experts believe that using child-centric methods, making changes at the managerial and structural level has helped improve educational outcomes in school. Last few years saw incredible changes in staffing pattern, school administration and teacher’s accountability. This has made a positive difference to the academic system. Bent on channelizing human resources in a better manner, the government aims to introduce global revolutionary education schemes in Rajasthan. Jaipur Festival of Education, a global academic meet organised by the state government is an ambitious scheme that’ll help Rajasthan education department accomplish its far-fetched goals.
