With great efforts put in by the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Smt. Vasundhara Raje and her team Rajasthan have turned the tables in the state by making the capital a smart city. If you are not aware of the term yet, let us tell you, a Smart City is the one which is built around the users. To be more specific, they are designed to optimize resource. They provide all the necessary facilities to the residents like electricity, access to clean drinking water, proper parking space, more public transport, clean societies, and a sustainable environment.
CM Raje said, “With support from Govt. of India we are developing Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota and Udaipur as smart cities. Jaipur with its effort in smart lighting, IT enabled services, interactive kiosks, remote e-Governance solutions, Parking Management Systems and increasing wi-fi connectivity is moving ahead to become a smart city. Jaipur has been declared first Light House City in South Asia. UNESCO has nominated Jaipur as the City of Crafts and Folk Art while the World Crafts Council has also declared Jaipur as a Crafts City.”
Principal Secretary, Local Self Government, Government of Rajasthan, Dr. Manjit Singh said, “It is a matter of pride that two cities of Rajasthan — Jaipur and Udaipur- have been selected in the first 20 cities out of 100 cities in Phase 1 of the Smart City Mission. Smart City Proposals have been sent to the Ministry of Urban Development for Kota and Ajmer as well, he informed.” He said this while he was addressing at the inaugural session of the Conference on ‘Smart & Green Liveable Cities’ on Friday. This was one day conference that was organised by the CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) in collaboration with LSG (Department of Local Self Government), Jaipur Smart City Limited and Jaipur Municipal Corporation. Also, on the occasion Nirmal Nahata, Jaipur Mayor said, “For the successful implementation of the Smart City Scheme, it is essential for the public to enthusiastically participate in its development.”
He said, “Each city has its own unique and kind of ‘smartness’. The smart city policy framework of Jaipur has been developed keeping in mind that it is a heritage city.” Nahata further said, “Not only should better policies relating to smart cities be formulated and implemented but they should also be economically viable.”
The Mayor continued saying, “The increasing population of the cities is impacting the civic infrastructure. New schemes, therefore, have to be made keeping this aspect in mind. The smart cities envisage improving the quality of life of its citizens.”
On the occasion of this conference, Nahata released the theme paper on Smart & Green Live able Cities. He also launched the Kota Smart Card which will provide a digital, mobile and cashless platform for everyday use of common people in Kota.
