For the very first time, Rajasthan is gearing up to establish a cow sanctuary that will be opened up in Bikaner spread across an area of more than 220 hectares of land. As per the reports, the state government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a private trust during CM Vasundhara Raje’s visit to Bikaner on Friday.
The new sanctuary will be established in Bikaner’s Napasar region and will house thousands of bovines. The main objective behind setting up the sanctuary is to dedicate the entire area to cows in lines with a wildlife sanctuary.

As per the reports, the cow sanctuary will be developed as a tourist place with various facilities for the cows like hospitals and Sewan grass as fodder will also be given to the bovines. Primarily the sanctuary will house all those cows who have been abandoned and don’t produce milk anymore. Besides, those rescued from smugglers will also be given a shelter here.
It’s important to note that Rajasthan is the first state of India to have a ministry dedicated to cow welfare. In an effort to further serve the bovines, the government had recently declared a 20% surcharge on liquor the proceeds of which will go to the protection of the cows in the shelters.
Earlier, reports were doing the rounds that the Akshay Patra Foundation was planning a bull safari at Hingonia Gaushala in Rajasthan. Clearly, the state has given a new direction to cow welfare with several efforts that were not seen before.
