Significance of celebrating Roop Chaturdashi
As per Hindu mythology, there are certain reasons due to which Roop Chaturdashi is celebrated. People worship Yamraj, the God of death today. The festival also marks the defeat of demon Narkasur by Goddess Kali and Lord Krishna. As it is observed before the grand Diwali celebrations, hence it is called Choti Diwali.
There is also a ritual of Abhyang Snan. This holy bath is taken before the sunrise. In this, people take bath of ubtan made up of sesame oil, Gulab Jal (Rose Water) and Ganga Jal. It is believed those who take this bath on Roop Chaudas will go to heaven after their death.
