Private Companies are invited to manage power distribution in Rajasthan. The largest state of the country Rajasthan witnessed its triple fold jumped fiscal deficit in 2015-16 after taking over the state power utility debt has now invited private companies to manage and help the state government in electricity distribution in the state.
To begin with, the private companies are invited to manage the power distribution in the Kota and Bharatpur districts of the sate for the next 20 years.
Rajasthan’s Principal Secretary for Energy, Sanjay Malhotra, in an interview recently said, “The chief minister is taking personal interest in turning around the power distribution sector. The chief secretary will hold monthly and quarterly review of the performance of power distribution companies. As per the proposed public-private partnership in the distribution sector, the state power utility will continue to own the infrastructure, but the private player will maintain and use it. It will be the private player who will handle customer relationship.”
