Rajasthan is going green under CM Raje’s one of the most successful projects- Mukhyamantri Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan (MJSA). This project is adding a dash of green in the biggest oil-producing region of India- the Barmer oil fields.
Last few decades have witnessed the deterioration in the condition of water harvesting structures in Rajasthan. After the launch of MJSA, residents of Thar Desert are practicing traditional methods for rainwater storage.
Now, the innovative practices adopted by the villagers, are bringing a positive change. Monsoon this year in the region is a cause of concern in Thar and availability of fodder and water for livestock would be a problem for many farmers. Meanwhile, revived water structures like Naadi and Khadin around oil fields would provide lifesaving support for six to ten months.
Mukhyamantri Jal Swavlamban Yojana has supported water filled spots at Baap Nadi, Uttarlai Nadi, Bhadkha-Bothia and Sheo.
List of the benefits is long
The efforts to revive the rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharging structures of more 650 villages and dhanis in Barmer district are going to be visible despite low rainfall. These nadis will prove to be support for wildlife.
With the support of Mukhyamantri Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan the villagers have revitalized 15 nadis of the district. Accumulation of 50 lakh cubic meters of water will be possible with the help of these structures in the normal rainfall year.
Water Harvesting Programme is being carried forward through Khadin in areas where the geo-structure is favorable for water storage. Their number is high in Bothia and Gudamalani region. Under the MJSA, the government has constructed 630 Khadin structures in conjunction with the villagers.
As per the results, the soil testing of the individual field and the quality and quantity of water available, the government has provided training and support for the sapling and drip irrigation method to the farmers. Henceforth, the farmers will get the benefit of stored water for more than six months after the normal monsoon.
Under the MJSA, the farmers are being connected to advance agricultural technology modified for the region. Farmers thank Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje as their income is increasing as the greenery in the area.
