Kangana Ranaut shoots for Manikarnika

Just a few months after Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmaavat became a victim of violent protests and opposition in Rajasthan and other states, another upcoming film has got into trouble. As per the recent reports, Kangana Ranaut’s period film Manikarnika, which is a tribute to Rani Laxmi Bai, is facing accusations of distorting historical facts much like the film Padmaavat.

In a press conference held in Jaipur on Monday, the President of Sarv Brahman Mahasabha (SBM) Suresh Mishra claimed that the film Manikarnika; The Queen of Jhansi is depicting a love affair between Rani Laxmi Bai and a British man. He further revealed that he has come to know from his friends and acquaintances that the film is based on a foreigner’s book and the affair element dampens the image of the queen.

A letter has been sent to the producer of the film from Sarv Brahman Mahasabha enquiring about the writers of the script and the details of the historian consulted by the makers while working on the film. As of now, the producers and makers haven’t replied to the letter. He has also urged the Rajasthan government to attain an affidavit from the producers clarifying that the historical facts haven’t been distorted.

Meanwhile, the producer of the film Kamal Jain has claimed that the movie doesn’t distort the historical facts in any way and they are willing to show the script to anyone who has an objection to it. The producer has also revealed that there is no love affair shown in the film care has been taken while consulting historians and scholars.

It’s important to note that Rani Laxmi Bai was a Brahman and hence the Brahman community is quite concerned as to how the film portrays the image of the queen as it’s related to their emotions and sentiments. The film has been shot in various parts of Rajasthan and hence has caught the special attention of the community members who are making sure that no fact has been misrepresented in the film.
