The 11th edition of Jaipur Literature Fest has begun in the city capital and has already become a trending topic on Twitter. The fest is going to feature more than 200 sessions on a wide array of topics ranging from poetry, fiction, non-fiction, science, environment, history, travel, cinema, music, and economics.
The fest began with a soulful performance by Meera Pandit and Nathulal Solanki, which was followed by a keynote address by Pico Iyer titled “A world without borders”. There was a speech by Lisa Randall on the intriguing topic: Dark Matter and Dinosaurs.
Other scheduled speeches and sessions include “The Real Thing” by Academy Award Winner Tom Stoppard and “The Great Survivor” by Hamid Karzai and William Dalrymple. Besides, novelist Helen Fielding is going to discuss fiction and comic with Meru Gokhale.
This year the fest is going to celebrate the diversity of languages, multi-faceted trajectories, and enigmatic roots. The event will also celebrate Hindi as a common language and announcement will be made regarding the inclusion of first ever Hindi word in the Oxford dictionary.
A lineup of book launches is also scheduled at the event by highly acclaimed writers like Shashi Tharoor, Ashok Chopra, Ashwini Sangi, and others. A concluding debate on the topic “#MeToo: Do Men Still Have It too Easy?” will be overseen by a noted panel and a voting session afterward.
A unique addition to this year’s edition is the element of Heritage Evenings that will exhibit the rich culture and heritage of Rajasthan through soulful ghazal performance by Shekhar Ravijani, theatrical play, and sarangi recital by Ustad Kamal Sabri.
The music and art performances will be beautified by talented artists like Shilpa Rao, Kailash Kher, Zakir Hussain, and bands like Skavengers, Afro Celt Sound System, Trippy Sama & Barmer Boys.
