It’s show time for prisoners in Rajasthan. Rajasthan will soon be screening latest movies and would be offering books of different subjects to the prisoners in the state jails. The Supreme Court advocated a lower court’s decree asking the state government to introduce “humane living conditions” in eight central jails of the state. The state government had challenged the Rajasthan High Court’s January order in the Supreme Court.
Supreme Court on Friday had asked the Rajasthan government to screen the latest Bollywood films for prisoners in Rajasthan’s eight central jails every fortnight.
“These measures are part of the reforms the HC has asked you to carry out. There is nothing wrong in them,” a bench headed by chief justice TS Thakur said.
Besides the latest movie screening, the prisoners will also be given one sweet dish in lunch every Sunday. “You must encourage people to remain occupied. Reforms in jails are always welcomed,” it said. According to the order circulation of four daily Hindi newspapers and four monthly magazines in Hindi will also be provided in each barrack of the central jails.
“It is important to have psychiatric in the jail or else jail inmates will turn into psychics,” the Supreme Court said.
