“Happy Streets” is a call for action for all unhappy pedestrians who can’t walk calmly on the streets…
Jaipur is a fast-developing ‘smart’ city with superior infrastructure and ‘smarter’ people who’ve claimed the roads and streets as their own. As the fleet of cars is increasing on the roads, they’ve robbed the poor hikers off their pedestrian space. Earlier it was car owners who parked their vehicles roadside. Now, considering the streets as ‘Baap ki Road’, they’ve started driving vehicles on walking trails. In these difficult times of dense traffic, public campaigns like Happy Streets aim to bring much-anticipated joy to poor commoners, who’re deprived of fancy BMWs and Mercedes.
After relieving the daily commuters in other cities like Pune, Mumbai and Noida, Times of India is braced up to add life to Jaipur streets this time. TOI Happy Streets is a public cause that provides the natives with the opportunity to reclaim their rights on streets. After all, everyone pays taxes for its maintenance. The initiative will kick off in Pink City from February 12, Sunday.
There will be live caricature artists and stand-up comedians to entertain the crowds that will join this noble cause.
This weekend event is sponsored by Shree Cement and organised by Jaipur Police, in collaboration with the local TOI team. If you are not one of those lazy asses who happily sleep through the day, you’re invited to join a series of peppy events like dancing, cycling, football, badminton and martial arts. All these activities are sufficient to excite the city denizens on an active Sunday morning.
There are lots of fun activities for kids too. The little ones can relish in street activities like tug of war, hand scooter races and pogo sticks. Beautiful morning ragas will be played early in the morning by live artists. There are drawing contests and carom rounds for added entertainment.
In short, Happy Streets will bring plenty of happy activities for the locals to start their day on a happy note. There’s a surprise in store for trivia fans. TOI will host a question-answer round, where they’ll ask questions based on newspaper content. Newspaper fans are surely going to participate in this one.
Keeping all the fun aside, the main objective of this campaign is to make the street-dwellers aware of their street rights. We’re hopeful that Happy Streets will knock some sense into careless drivers and lost walkers. Stay tuned for more updates.
