In Pokhran field firing range of Jaisalmer district, first indigenous, longrange artillery gun ‘Dhanush’ (popularly called Desi Bofors) is going to be tested again after two years this week. It is developed by Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) and manufactured by Jabalpur-based Gun Carriage Factory (GCF). At present, six desi Bofors (Dhanush) have also reached Pokharan Field Firing Range and are ready for testing.

From the last five years, the Dhanush trials have been going on. Even, earlier there were issues regarding ammunition used in it. Even, there was a shell burst in the barrel during the trial two years back so it the trail was to be stopped. Well.. before bringing it to Pokhran range for testing, it was successfully tested in the Balasore range of Odisha in upgraded version. In this week, the final testing of indigenous Bofors cannon will be done at Pokhran field firing range of Jaisalmer.

From the last few years, the testing of domestic version of Sweden’s Bofors cannon was being one at various places. To check its authenticity, the Dhanush is being tested in every kind of weather. For hot weather, it is to be tested in Rajasthan in 45-50 degrees Celsius at Pokhran field firing range in Jaisalmer district.

The trials of Desi Bofors (Dhanush) are being done in the presence of representatives of Indian Army, senior and technical officers, and GCF experts in Pohkran field firing range. Its long-range firepower and its performance will be tested in Pokhran range.
