Jaipur natives get a useful Christmas gift from the government. Rajasthan health ministry has recently approved the construction of a 14-storey building near Sawai Man Singh that is SMS hospital in Jaipur. This brand new building will serve as a super speciality centre for the locales. For those who don’t know, a super-specialty centre is a hospital that offers specialised service to patients suffering from particular illness. They generally deal with a plethora of services– emergency, diagnostic, surgery facilities and ICU/CCU stay for specific diseases.
As per the medical officers of SMS hospital, the Centre will fund Rs. 200 crores for its development. The government plans to develop this building at Vivekanand Marg at Bungalows No. 9 and 10.
Presently, the hospitals associated with SMS Medical college can accommodate about 4,800 patients at a time. Around 3 lakhs patients benefit from the inpatient facilities whereas 40 lakhs patients are transferred to outpatient departments due to lack of space and resources. Ever since the hospital set a milestone in medical history by successfully transplanting stem cells in a Nigerian patient, the authorities are witnessing a dramatic increasing in the number of patients every day. Several local, as well as international patients, have shown interest in their services.
This new building will help accommodate several new patients in future. As per Dr Shashi Mohan Sharma, the new speciality centre will have 14 floors dedicated to special services ranging from cardiothoracic surgery to cardiology. This will help conquer grave diseases. This new addition will relieve pressure from the old premises.
According to Rajasthan health minister Kalicharan Saraf, the government will soon start its work on the super-speciality block. To link this new building with SMS Hospital’s main ITO (Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics), the government will construct a new subway for swift connectivity.
The SMS hospital will submit a complete proposal to the state government for its construction. Hopefully, this will help fulfil the requirements of hospital authorities in future.
