Passengers will soon hear announcements of air operations in Dhundhari, Marwari, and Mewari language at Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur airports, respectively along with Hindi and English. Airport Authority of India at these places are mulling over the plan to make announcements in local dialects on airports in Rajasthan.
The decision came a day after the Union civil aviation ministry issued a directive on Wednesday asking all 100 odd airports in the country to make public announcements in the local language first, followed by Hindi and English. The move follows a directive from civil aviation minister Suresh Prabhu.
Officials said that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has issued a directive to all aerodromes under its control to start making public announcements in the local language in addition to Hindi and English. Only exceptions to this directive are the silent airports, where public announcements are not made.
According to the officials, the ministry has specifically asked for local dialect for the translation. Jaipur airport authority will consult with the professors and teachers of the University of Rajasthan to find out what suits Jaipur airport.
Tourism experts of Rajasthan believed that this will add on to the foot-fall at the airports in Rajasthan. Because gone are the days when air journey was confined to selective people. With the low-fare airlines penetrating across the country, it is a good move as the common man too is traveling by air.
