Pink City boy, Ankit Arora recently made a new National record into the India Book of Records for cycling the Golden Triangle route. Covering a whopping distance of 702kms, Ankit created a record by  riding a gearless bicycle continuously for 69.38 hours on the Golden Triangle route (Jaipur-Agra-Delhi-Jaipur).

The 27-year-old Ankit Arora is a BPO employee by profession and a cycle expeditioner and travel blogger by passion. He believes in the cause, ‘Cycle to Recycle’ wherein he clubs his passion of adventure with the cause of promoting the use of solar energy and waste recycle and management.

Apart from creating a National record, he also creates awareness wherever he goes, about the use of alternative sources of energy. For promoting this cause, he himself installed solar panels on his bicycle which he uses for charging mobile phone, bicycle lights etc.

The record was made on 20th August, which was the Renewable Energy Day (Akshay Urja Diwas) for India Book of Records and Limca Book of Records by covering the Golden Triangle route solo.

“My main aim to take up this expedition was to encourage the common man to use non-fuel modes for transportation and to promote waste management and recycling. I used a non-geared cycle which is the usual Indian cycle so I could connect with them better,” said Ankit to a reporter.

He further added “I only took breaks for stretching and was on a liquid diet that consisted of soup and chocolate shake for energy. I barely slept for four hours.”

Adding to his list of accomplishments is the title of  ‘Super Randonneur’ in March 2016 where he completed the full set of 200, 300, 400, and 600 km in 12 months.

He is also a member of Jaipur Cycling Comrades and NGO Eco-Paddlers that promotes cycling for a sustainable and pollution-free environment.

Mr. Mahendra Parikh, Special Secretary to Rajasthan Home Minister and Bharat Scouts & Guides also helped him in his endeavour by arranging police stations and Scouts officials in the state to get his record duly stamped and authenticated. Organization of ‘Rajasthan Electronics and Instruments Limited’ also helped him by arranging solar panels.

His next plan is to cover the Golden Quadrilateral expedition and becoming the first person to do it on a bicycle.
