Rains have transformed the fate of many places. In Kerala, it wreaked havoc and made life miserable while in Rajasthan it brought relief and people are happy and enjoying water pouring down from sky. Talking about the popular Keoladeo National Park at Bharatpur, there was tension due to water scarcity in Rajasthan. But, the rains brought life back to the park.
There were worries about the species inhabiting in the national park as whether they get sufficient water or not. Well.. the adequate rainfall has released this tension as the water was released through Goverdhan drain. Due to good rains in the catchment area of the Panchana dam and Goverdhan drain, the excess water is supplied here.
The ornithologists heartily welcomed this step. The uncertainty for water because of less rainfall is now over. As per the officials, few weeks back only one block had little water. With the sufficient water, heronry has been formed in various areas in huge numbers while various other bird species are also nesting.
Talking about the system of Keoladeo national park, its land dries up during summer and is full of water after monsoon. This has resulted in a one of its kind environment which is healthy for the local ecosystem.
Keoladeo National Park
Formerly known as the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, Keoladeo National Park is situated in Bharatpur, Rajasthan. It is man-made sanctuary which was used to be duck-hunting reserve of the Maharajas. It is one of the richest bird areas in the world. Some 364 species of birds, including the rare Siberian crane, have been recorded in the park.
