In order to hold dialogues with gurjar leaders over reservation, Rajasthan government invited Gurjar leaders to Jaipur on 14th May. This meeting was attended by a 15-member delegation of Gurjar. The delegation reached Jaipur Secretariat at 6pm on Monday. This meeting was headed by chairman of the cabinet sub-committee on Gujjar reservation, minister Rajendra Rathore. However, this meeting was not attended by Kirori Singh Bainsla. Let’s get the details about the meeting.
What was the outcome of meeting?
After the announcement of revival of gurjar agitation by Gurjar leader Colonel Kirori Singh Bainsla from 15th May, Raje government wanted to settle the matter. Talking about the outcome of the meeting, nothing remarkable has been achieved. But, Rajendra Rathore, termed the talks ‘positive’ while Gurjar leader Himmat Singh, expressed his disappointment and said they have not made much progress during the talks.
Final decision after Mahapanchayat
The minister also said to comment on any conclusion after holding Mahapanchayat. In fact, a next round of talks will be held on 15 May where Gurjar delegation and Kirori Singh Bainsla will talk with Rajasthan government.
What are the demands of Gurjar?
Gurjar community is demanding 5 per cent reservation within 21 per cent quota for the Other Backward Castes (OBCs). Although the state government has approved 5% reservation to the community, the Supreme Court revoke this decision as it was crossing the reservation cap of 50% in a state.
