Organized by the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan, Mewar Festival will begin on 20th March. It is a three-day festival that marks the advent of spring. This festival is held in Udaipur Rajasthan with the help of District Administration. Mewar festival holds huge significance in Udaipur and is an important part of the culture and tradition in Udaipur. It aims to carry forward the ancient culture of the region.
As Udaipur has been always the governing place of the Mewar rulers, the city exhibits new colours during the festival. This festival coincides with Gangaur. Hence, it is very special to the ladies.
During this festival, ladies assemble and dress the idols of Isar (Lord Shiva) and Gangaur (Goddess Parvati). After this, a procession moves through different parts of the city along wirth idols of Isar and Gangaur. At last, the procession move towards the Gangaur Ghat at Pichola Lake. Here, the idols are immersed in the deep waters of the lake. The unique part about this celebration is boat procession. In this, boats are decorated which carry the idols of deities.
This is not the completion of the festival as various cultural events and activities take place. Mewar festival gathers people from the city and around the world. Even a Gangaur Mela is organized at Gogunda which is 40 km from Udaipur. Many cultural programs will be held at the Mela Ground, Gogunda, Udaipur from 20-22 March.
