The new terminal of the Jaipur Airport is going to be 7 times larger than the existing T2 terminal and will be loaded with several modern amenities. It’s a project worth INR 1400 Crores and reportedly the work will commence by December 2018.
If reports are to be believed, it will take 3 years for completion once the project kicks off. The management consultant allotted to this project is Dorsch Consult (India) Pvt Ltd, an Indian Subsidiary of Dorsch Group.
Apart from the construction of the new terminal that will connect to Terminal 2, work is also going on for the renovation of Terminal 1. As revealed by Jaipur Airport Director JS Balhara, the Terminal 2 is spread across an area of 18,000 square meters while the new one will cover more than 1.25 Lakh square meters.
Currently, drawings are being prepared for the project as the new terminal will be equipped with world class facilities. Besides, work is also going on for the building of new taxiways and parking aprons. Once finished, the airport will be ready to enable the landing of E-category jumbo jets. It will also entertain the flights diverted from New Delhi.
In the last 5 years, the passenger load on Jaipur airport had doubled up, thereby putting pressure on the available resources. In fact, it has also led to a drop in the ranking of the airport. Although the capacity of Terminal 2 is 6k-7k, it currently handles around 11000 passengers on a daily basis. As per the data, the airport registered passenger traffic of 3.8 million in 2016-17 which reached 4.3 million by February 2018 for the year 2017-18.
However, it’s expected that things will get easy in September when Terminal 1 will become operational. Also, the total conveyors on the arrival side of Terminal 2 will go up from 2 to 5.
