Rajasthan education department has announced the transport voucher plan for students of government-run primary and upper primary schools. The scheme has been introduced for the students in the session 2018-19. Under this, the students will be able to avail these vouchers in state and local administration transport system.
The transport voucher plan has been launched for those students who have to travel to their schools for 1 km (primary) and 2 kms (upper primary) away from home. The primary students will avail vouchers for INR 10 per day while the upper primary students will get vouchers for INR 15 per day.
The basic objective behind the scheme is to reduce the dropout rate of students. This is because many students tend to drop out from schools as they don’t have schools near their homes and can’t afford to travel on a daily basis to schools located far away.
The burden of this transport voucher plan will be met under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and the district education officials have been directed to ensure that the benefits are provided to the students in need so that they can attend school on a daily basis.
Talking about the number of girl students attending the schools in the state, the recent developments have seen a positive change. Owing to the government’s prestigious Gargi prize, the number of girls students has raised from 91780 in 2016-17 to 1,26, 411 in the year 2017-18. Gargi prize is a cash prize given to students who have scored 75% or above in class 10 and 12 exams.
As per the official reports, a total of INR 48.70 Crores is going to be spent on the cash prize. As compared to the previous year, the number of Gargi award winners has gone up by 34,631. The maximum number is contributed by Jaipur (9470) followed by Sikar (4760) and Nagaur (3686).
