Most of the women Sarpanch are believed to be dependent on their husbands or Party officials for the routine work related to the Panchayat. However, the Sarpanch of Sobhagpura Kavita Joshi is single-handedly breaking all stereotypes. The lady has emerged as a role model for all women representatives in the village.
Kavita Joshi, the Sarpanch of Sobhagpura Village Panchayat teaches literacy-deprived women and female dropouts for two hours daily, in the Panchayat Bhavan. 20 of these female dropouts will be appearing for the Class X Board examinations from Rajasthan Open Board.
The Sarpanch not only visited all the houses to identify women and young girls who needed to be taught, but she even encouraged the dropouts to finish off their education. Initially, there were just 10-15 of them but today the count has reached to 50.
Kavita Joshi’s classroom in the Panchayat Bhavan includes many young girls who were barred from studies by their families. Some of them used to stop attending classes when they were asked by their parents/guardians not to continue with the studies. However, Kavita insisted their families not to stop them from completing their studies.
