Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports of Rajasthan, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore is himself an Olympic Silver Medallist. He won the medal in shooting at Athens 2004. Apart from this, he had won several other prestigious awards in shooting. He was elected to Lok Sabha from Jaipur Rural in 2014 and at present holding the position of Minister for Youth Affairs and Sport.
National Youth Festival
The youth festival is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Youth Jamboree festival is an annual gathering of about 6,000 youth with various cultural activities including competitive ones. Last year, it was hosted by Haryana. In 2011, Rajasthan hosted it at Udaipur.
As this festival is organized by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with one of the state governments that’s why Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore wanted this festival to be held in Rajasthan.
On organizing this festival in Rajasthan, the Additional Chief Secretary Jagdish Chandra Mohanty said, “There was a proposal to organise National Youth Festival in Rajasthan but we conveyed that we are not interested this year because we had already done it in Udaipur a few years ago. The states are offered (to organise the) festival by rotation; any state can host it.”
