A government-operated university will soon start function in Rajasthan to impart education and skills to the specially-abled students. A proposal was sent by the department to the cabinet for approval. CM Vasundhara Raje herself proposed the plan to establish the university in 2017 for which INR 6.5 Crores have been earmarked.
The university will be established in Jamdoli, situated on the outskirts of Jaipur from the next academic session of 2018-19. As per the 2011 census, the state has 15 Lakh differently-abled people. All these people will be benefited once the university starts operating.
As per JC Mohanty, Additional Chie Secretary, Social Justice, and Empowerment, there is a lack of divyang-friendly schools and colleges to cater to the needs of students suffering from disabilities like hearing/speech impairment, blindness, or mental illness. Moreover, there aren’t enough teachers to educate these students and this gap will be bridged by the new university.
Although the university will be opened for all, 50% of the seats will be reserved for the specially-abled students. The students who will graduate from this university will be employed at other educational institutes that are meant for the differently abled and will manage the government-operated residential homes for the people with disabilities.
To start with, the university will offer courses like B.ed, M.ed, diploma and certificate. Initially, there will be 2-year B.ed course in visual impairment, hearing impairment, learning disability, and mental retardation. Later, many other courses will also be added to the curriculum.
