It is a great news for the state of Rajasthan as finally the state government got permission to build five medical colleges from Medical Council of India. This is an amazing opportunity for Rajasthan as it would add 500 more MBBS to the existing ones. In fact, almost 1,000 new UG seats have been allocated to the state out of which 250 are in government and 750 in private medical colleges. Talking about the current situation of colleges, there are 2,600 UG seats in the state colleges.

Previous proposal rejected
Even, in 2013-14, the Central government had announced seven medical colleges for the state but it could not happened as proposed colleges failed to fulfil the norms of MCI.

Details about 5 new Medical colleges
On May 15, the MCI had issued a letter of permission to establish 13 new medical colleges for 2018-19 across India. In this, Rajasthan has got five- Pali, Dungarpur, Churu, Bharatpur and Bhilwara. At present, there are eight medical government colleges in Rajasthan in the districts of Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Udaipur, Ajmer, Bikaner, Jhalawar along with the RUHS Medical College in Jaipur. From the academic session of 2018-19, these five medical colleges will become operational.
