Soon the activities of oil and gas exploration activities will start in Rajasthan. In the first round of the open acreage licensing policy, Vedanta has won exploration licenses for oil and gas blocks. After winning the license, the work will start in new areas of Barmer and Jaisalmer. Ten blocks are located in Barmer and one is located in Jaisalmer. Know more.
Out of 55 oil and gas blocks, Vedanta has won exploration licenses for 41. Anil Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta Resources said that they are happy to get new blocks in the state. He also appreciated of Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP). With the help of OLAP, India’s oil dependence will reduce to 67 percent from 80 percent by year 2022.
Details of Barmer
Rajasthan’s Barmer has helped a lot in putting the country on world map in terms of oil and gas. This area contributes most to the domestic production of the country. In Barmer-Sanchore basin, efforts for oil and gas reserves have been made. After nine years, it has started to peak in terms of revenue generation for Rajasthan state government. Due to oil production, the state has received more than $ 5.30 billion in revenues so far.
India’s largest ground oil reservoir, Mangla, was discovered in Barmer in 2005. On August 29, 2009, the then Prime Minister opened the valve and started the first barrel of oil production from Thar.
