As per the results of the National Achievement Survey (NAS), 2017 released recently, the Rajasthan students in Standard 3, 5, and 8 are performing better than those in the rest of the country. The survey was conducted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in 2017 and covered more than 1 Lakh students across 33 districts of the state.
Among Class 8 students, the average achievement of students in Science was 62% while the national average in the same category was 44%. Moving on to subjects like Mathematics, Language, and Social Science, they scored an average of 57%, 67%, and 63%. In this category, the national figures are 42%, 57%, and 63% respectively.
Moving on to the students of Class 3 and 5, the Rajasthan students were ahead of the students in the rest of the country. Not just the average achievement but the survey also took into account the opinion of the students on a range of topics. 79% students in Class 3, 83% in Class 5, and 87% in Class 8 said that they understood what teachers taught in the class.
Furthermore, around 92-96% students in these classes said that they liked attending school while 76-79% said that they go out and play during the games period.
The survey also covered more than 16,000 teachers in more than 5,000 schools. 32% of the teachers said that the school buildings need to be repaired while 19% said that there was a lack of electricity and drinking water. Besides, 11% also said that there was a lack of toilet facilities at the schools.
Talking about their work, 94% teachers admitted that they have sufficient supplies and instruction material while 82% said that they have adequate space for teaching. While 65% teachers were found to be highly satisfied with their jobs, 28% said that they are overloaded with work.
