Birla suggested linking rivers, everyone in aware that Rajasthan is the most arid state of the country and as the summer reaches its peak, a total of 19 out of 33 districts in the state are facing drought and more than 13500 villages are facing water crisis. To overcome this problem, MP from Kota district of the state, OM Birla lately has suggested a new plan. He has demanded that linking the rivers in the eastern Rajasthan can help overcome the drought-plagued conditions in the state.
The MP participated in the debate over drought on Wednesday in the Lok Sabha and there he proposed this plan of interlinking various rivers of the state like Kali Sindh, Parbati, Chambal and Banas. He said, “The state of Rajasthan has 10 per cent of the country’s land but only one per cent of its water resources. This is one of the main reasons for the regular dry spells and prolonged water shortage.”
He further added, “The Sharda-Yamuna Rajasthan Sabarmati link will help provide water to nine districts while the Brahmani Banas link will address the water shortage problems in districts like Dausa, Jaipur and Ajmer”
Well the state government has already projected liking Brahmani and Banas rivers to store the rain water.
