As the Gujjar Sangharsh Samiti’s spokesperson Himmat Singh announced about the gurjjar ‘s agitation for reservation quota in Bharatpur, there is little panic. Whenever gurjjars sit for agitation, they always create unrest in society and disturb the whole system. The agitation will begin at Adda village under Bayana sub-division in Bharatpur from 15th May.

As per the sources, the Gujjar leaders will invite villagers of Bayana to be part of agitation and make it successful. In order to intensify the agitation this time, Gujarat’s Patidar leader Hardik Patel will take part in protest.

Reasons for the revival of agitation
The gurjjars have started agitation with the demand for reservation under “special backward classes”. Last October, Rajasthan government approved five percent reservation to Gurjjars and four other castes. But, this exceeded the overall 50% quota limit decided by Supreme Court. Hence, Rajasthan High court rejected it and restricted it to one percent by creating a new category- ‘most backward classes’.

Although 1% quota has been issued, the Gujjars community is demanding 4% more. Gurjjar leaders are furious as they said that the government has promised them reservation.
