In the jails of Rajasthan, skill training is provided to the jail inmates by Rajasthan Skill and Livelihoods Development Corporation (RSLDC). This corporation also made efforts to identify more training areas. With this, skill training of jail inmates in Rajasthan got a boost.
The jail inmates of Rajasthan get training in trades like nursery management, vermiculture, vermicomposting, electrical house wiring and jewellery making. Other areas where training has been given are agriculture, candle-making, jute products, horticulture, bridal jewellery making, garment making, paper mache, Indian sweets and snacks.
There are many prisoners who are first-time criminals and victims of circumstances. These training help them financially. The prisoners also feel good as training laid emphasis on providing emotional financial support. Skill training is a wonderful way of enabling these inmates to be self dependent. By learning these new skills, they get an opportunity to live a life of dignity and self-respect.
Since 2015, more than 890 jail inmates in districts of Rajasthan had been imparted training. These jail inmates have been counselled and mobilised by jail authorities.
Many new training partners are invited to work for jail inmates and adolescents lodged in juvenile homes. There are many organizations which have associated jail authorities for training like Sarthak Educational Trust, Prayas Juvenile Aid Society, Jagran Professional Studies, Vidya Kiran Education Society and Dhara Foundation.
