‘Old is not Gold’: The oldest Party of India, Congress has negated the timeless adage by replacing veterans with new faces fielded in by Chota Bheem-lover, Rahul Gandhi who has perhaps inherited the Congress throne by a stroke of fate.
The shuffling process for Congress’ top positions had gained a lot of momentum, in the wake of losing dearly to BJP in a series of elections held last year. The massive flop show witnessed in the Uttar Pradesh election results hinted at troubled waters for Congress in the near future. And that’s what happened…
Not only in Uttar Pradesh, but the Congress party faced humongous ill-fortune in the desert state, Rajasthan, as well. Led by Rahul Gandhi apparently, Congress is losing out on public confidence due to its incoherent governance techniques in the past.
Talking about the present, Congress’s fate in Rajasthan has been handed over to a not-so-confident and experienced Sachin Pilot who is himself trying to construe the implications of handling state politics, at this point in his career.
Ahead of the state polls later next year, it is imperative for Pilot to put his best foot forward. However, experience speaks for itself. Former state president Gehlot possesses intrinsic political competence. Pilot, on the other hand, is devoid of quintessential qualities for handling state politics.
The weakening bonds between the older and new generation of Congress has clearly become a reason for party’s downfall (the dinner diplomacy, for instance, fell flat on their faces).
By and large, Congress party has been striving to demote and eventually demolish Gehlot’s career. But apathy from the high-command for the veteran leader landed him a demoted job in Gujarat’s politics.
The larger question, however, is ‘What made RaGa hand over the Rajasthan mantle to Pilot? Is it a cunning move to sideline Gehlot or just a political gimmick for garnering fan support from the youth community? Only time will tell…
