Voting to elect the next President of India concluded in the Rajasthan Assembly on Monday, with 199 legislators out of 200 exercising their franchise.

The voting for upcoming Presidential elections started today morning in the Rajasthan assembly. A total of 199 legislators cast their vote and the voting process was concluded successfully.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje cast her vote. A host of other ministers cast their vote. Assembly Speaker Kailash Meghwal and BJP state president Ashok Parnami already cast their vote.

CM Raje described Kovind as a law expert, an ideal politician. She also praised Kovind for standing firm to safeguard the rights of the deprived people.

What’s important to note, however, is the fact that former chief minister Ashok Gehlot cast his vote in Gujarat. The polls started at 10 am and concluded at 2.15 pm.

Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal will also be supporting Kovind, going against its Bihar’s grand alliance partners, the Congress and Lalu Prasad’s RJD.

Here is a bifurcation of the voter’s list.

Out of a total of 200 voters in the Rajasthan assembly, BJP has 161 MLAs, Congress 24 MLAs, four of NPP, two each of Zamindara Party and BSP, while seven voters were independent.

Ballot boxes from all state capital will be brought to New Delhi where votes will be counted on July 20.

NDA’s candidate is former Bihar governor Ram Nath Kovind while Congress has fielded in former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar for the top constitutional post.

The incumbent President Pranab Mukherjee will retire after his tenure ends on July 24.
