According to the report prepared by the Suchna Evam Rozgar Abhiyan (SERA) the largest state of the country Rajasthan has witnessed a decline in the beneficiaries in MGNREGA. The report says that the beneficiary families have reduced from 63.75 lakh in 2008-09 to 42.21 lakh in 2015-16.
While addressing a public hearing at Shaheed Smarak in Jaipur, Nikhil Dey, a social activist said, “It is astonishing that state had spent almost half of Rs 3,269 crore in 2015-16 of what they spent eight years ago. During this period, the minimum wage has increased close to double and building material has also seen a rise of 100%. It clearly means that BJP regime is slowly killing this programme.
Also, Aruna Roy of Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan (MKSS) said, “If state fails to announce 50 additional days of work under the programme, it would be contempt of court. During drought, this is the only way for villagers to sustain or else they migrate to bigger cities.”
