Mukhyamantri Jal Swavalamban Abhiyan is a scheme that would lead Rajasthan to water revolution. This scheme aims to change the famine and droughts in the state to happy times. Through this campaign of developing watershed structures, the dream of linking rivers had started taking shape in the state.

Earlier Rajasthan was the most water scarce state of the country.  The implementation of this scheme was an important step in the direction of resolving this crisis. It’s a unique program. Out of 249 blocks in Rajasthan, earlier there were only 25 safe blocks during the starting phase of the campaign. Now with the development of the scheme, the number of blocks has increased to 50. Apart from this, a whopping number of 26.5 lakh trees were also planted.

In the first phase of Jal Swavalamban campaign, numerous camps were organized at 3,563 villages across the state for developing watershed structures. Special bank accounts and crowd funding collection system had been developed for collection of funds from the donors of this Abhiyaan.

The phase 2 of Mukhya Mantri Jal Swavalamban Scheme (MJSS) was launched in November by the Rajasthan Government. The phase two of Mukhyamantri Jal Swavalamban Scheme aims to cover 4200 villages at a cost of Rs 2100 crore with high tech applications. The government will also conduct drone surveys of the villages to track the progress under the scheme.

In the second phase of the scheme, not only villages but towns were also included.  The government also invented new techniques for water conservation. This scheme has now been extended to the urban areas covering 190 towns and cities.

With the second phase of Mukhyamantri  Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan (MJSA) approaching its end on July 31, a meeting of officials with health minister Saraf was held at health directorate for reviewing the progress of the second phase of Jal Swalamban.  The state government has started the process of identifying the villages which will be taken up in the third phase of the campaign.

Now, in the third phase, the state government will encourage social organizations to step forward and contribute in the scheme with more enthusiasm. The state government will call a meeting of social and other NGOs for their contribution to the campaign. According to the Cabinet minister, Kalicharan Saraf preparations for the third phase have already been started and soon a list of villages will be prepared to provide the benefits from this scheme.

Jal Swavalamban Project is one example of progressing policies of the state government. With the motto of a self-reliant state, the government has been putting arduous efforts from long back.
