Under regional rapid transit system (RRTS) projects, high-speed rail link between Delhi and Rajasthan via Gurugram has finally been approved by the Haryana government. The decision was taken by government at a meeting headed by chief minister ML Khattar held in Chandigarh. This rail network will connect Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan to Haryana-Rajasthan border near Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror. This project will be held in phases. The average speed of trains would be about 100 kmph.

What will be the route?
This route will run on old Delhi-Gurugram Road near Kapashera border and will meet the highway at Signature Tower Chowk. After this, it moves underground beyond Kherki Daula where it would emerge above the ground at IMT Manesar. Further, it would move along the highway up to Dharuhera, Rewari and Bawal before entering Rajasthan.

Details about the project
In the first phase, it will be extended to Neemrana. The project is taken by NCR Transport Company which will prepare the detailed project report (DPR) within three months. NCR Transport Company is a joint venture of the government of India and states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi NCT. By March next year, the physical work is likely to be started. The first phase of the project is likely to be cost around Rs 25,000 crore.

Other decisions taken at the meeting were related to linking of metro routes with Delhi-Rajasthan rail link and to carry out techno-feasibility of metro route.
