Today’s students are tomorrow’s future. No nation can underrate this fact as if there is no quality education then the future of the country will seem dark. But, it is very disappointing to see the students squelched under the pressure of our education system. There are everyday reports of student’s suicide from various regions of India. One such place is Kota, which is the hub of IITs and AIEEEs coaching centers. Students from all over the country visit this city for medical and engineering entrance coaching. Kota is famous for some of the most prestigious and experienced educational institutions.
But, the city has a truth which everybody is well aware of. The pressure of studies and the rat race to excel in career has created a lonely world inside every student. The stress of clearing exams has been so high that the students there often commit suicides. Such unabated suicides have made the state authorities very concerned and thus, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has directed the district administration to augment corrective measures so that the students can handle their mental stress in a constructive way. To curb the grim situation, CM Raje issued such directions. The concerned meeting was called by Chief Minister Office (CMO) so that they could discuss the situation and decide upon some corrective measures regarding rising suicides in Kota.
According to the sources, the meeting was attended by the principal secretary, education, Naresh Pal Gangwar, home secretary Deepak Upreti, district collector of Kota RK Surpur, Kota SP Sawai Singh Godara, and other senior officials. A source presented in the meeting said, “In the meeting, possibilities of enacting a law to regulate coaching institutes were discussed. The district magistrate of Kota shared the status report on the guidelines framed by him to control the suicides.”
As far as the records are concerned, the number of suicides last year was 17 and this year data says that already 11 suicides have taken place until the month of August.
It is not necessary that whose fault is it which are resulting in these suicides but the lost lives will never return. CM Raje understands the delicate situation and thus wants direct immediate retaliatory action against the coaching institutes who are becoming education factory with wide pockets and no ethics.
As per sources, Raje asked officials to take necessary action to put an end to suicides and ensure strict compliance with the guidelines. The District Magistrate will take everyone’s take concerning the issue including, hostel owners, coaching institutes, and transporters.
