Amidst the rising controversy regarding upcoming movie Padmavati, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has written a letter to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani. In this letter, she has urged the Minister to ensure that before the release of the film, necessary changes are made.
Chief Minister has demanded that a community should be formed including film experts, historians, and Rajput Community members. After the suggestions from the community the film should be modified and only then the release should be given a nod.
This is the first formal communication from CM Raje since the controversy has started. After the letter was sent to Mrs. Irani, the delegates of Mewar Region visited CM Raje and thanked her for writing the letter.
Recently, the issue has gained a lot more intense form in various parts of the country including Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. The film Padmavati is being opposed because of an alleged dream sequence between Rani Padmini and Allauddin Khlji.
Although the makers and star cast are claiming that there is no objectionable element in the film, the Rajput Community is demanding a pre-showcase of the film before its release. Apparently, as pointed out by CM Raje, there is a provision in Indian constitution that controls the right of a filmmaker to make a movie if the public sentiments are hurt.
Apart from protests, several threats aimed at Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Actress Deepika Padukone have been received. Evidently, the production house Viacom 18 has deferred the release date until CBFC grants necessary clearance to the film.
