Krishna Janmashtami also known as Krishnashtami, Saatam Aatham, Gokulashtami, and popularly as Janmashtami, is an annual Hindu celebration which according to the Hindu calendar is celebrated on the Ashtami of Krishna Paksh or the 8th day of the dark fortnight in the month of Bhadon. The day is celebrated as on this day according to Hindu mythology, Hindu deity, Krishna was born who is also referred to as the eight avatar of lord Vishnu. The devotees conduct a fast on this day and perform rituals and pooja.
On this day, in all the temples, festivities begin from dawn and continue till midnight. People who conduct fast only eat after the birth of lord Krishna is celebrated at midnight. The idols are stunningly decorated and events include dancing, singing, reading scriptures, cooking over 100 dishes, and reciting prayers etc.
On the occasion of Janmashtami this year, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has greeted the residents of her state wishing everyone great health and prosperity. In her message for the state she said, “Lord Krishna has always directed the mankind to remain dedicated towards selfless deeds, the welfare of the afflicted and the marginalized sections of the society and to stand against injustice.”
The sole objective of Sri Krishna’s birth was to free the Earth from the evilness of demons. His entire life was dedicated towards the welfare of the mankind and is an inspiration for all. She further said that on the occasion of Janmasthami among the holy celebrations, let us all pledge to leave with peace and harmony, help each other, and stand together in happiness and sorrows and dedicated towards the welfare of the state and the country.
