As per some latest media reports, Rajasthan is soon going to receive 110 cheetals i.e. spotted deer from Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi that will be shifted to the Mukundra Hill Tiger Reserve in Kota. This species of deer is native to the Indian subcontinent and hence it’s found in abundance here.
Reportedly, a proposal has been sent by the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) for the shifting of 110 cheetals and possibly these will be transferred to Mukundra Hill Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan. Soon a letter will be sent to CZA agreeing to the proposal, as revealed by the Additional Principal Chief Conservator and Chief Wildlife Warden GV Reddy.
CZA had decided to close all zoos that don’t meet the norms after which the Gulab Bagh Zoo in Udaipur was closed down and the animals were shifted to Sajjangarh Biological Park. Talking about Mukundra, the Tigers will be shifted to the reserve by March end and the preparations are already in full swing. The cheetals will act as a prey base for these tigers.
Tiger T-91
As approved by National Tiger Reserve Conservation Authority, two females and one male tiger will be shifted to the Mukundra Hill Tiger Reserve. The authorities are monitoring the big cats that are likely to be transferred to Mukundra from other reserves.
For males, it could be T-91 which is currently in Bundi or T-95 and T-86 which recently had a territorial fight. Moving on, Tigress T-99 and T-102 are also being considered as they might be getting into a territorial fight with their mother. Both are currently moving in Ranthambore Tiger Reserve.
As far as the preparations are concerned, the construction work for boundary wall and chain link fencing is likely to be completed by March 31. Further, a 24-hectare enclosure is also being prepared to acclimatize the tigers.
